Odoo ERP v18: It’s New, It’s Smart, It’s Sleek, It’s Powerful!

At the Odoo Community Days 2024, held in Gujarat, India in late August, Founder and CEO of Odoo, Fabien Pinckaers, released Odoo v18 to a packed auditorium of Odoo software engineers, partners, and enthusiasts.
Odoo 18, brings a host of new features and improvements designed to enhance business operations and efficiency. With its modular structure, Odoo 18 provides a seamless experience across various business functions, including accounting, CRM, inventory, human resources, e-commerce, and more. Built with scalability and flexibility in mind, it caters to businesses of all sizes, from small startups to large enterprises, allowing users to automate and streamline their processes effortlessly. The enhanced user interface and intuitive navigation further improve accessibility, making it easier for teams to adopt and maximize the platform’s capabilities.
One of the standout features of Odoo 18 is its enhanced integration capabilities. And now on to a deep dive into some of the key new features in Odoo 18.
1. Accounting Module
A.Scan and pay bills
The accounting module can now be configured to leverage AI to scan bills and make payments.
B.Sales Commissions
Odoo 18 has a new module to calculate the commission of sales personnel.
Calculate the achievements and targets of your sales personnel based on the amounts they invoiced and sold, their margin, quantity sold and quantity invoiced, and the new MRR if your company has a subscription model.
It is also possible to combine different rules for specific products, product categories, or recurring periods
C. Loyalty Feature
Now users can launch an e-wallet and a loyalty card via their Odoo ERP
D.Combo Offers
Empower your point of sale (PoS) to sell more with combo offers
E. Customized Quotes
Customize your PDF quote builder, add translations, use any fields (based on a whitelist), and insert custom zones that can be manually modified for each quotation.
2. Point of Sale Module
With a new design for better UX at login and payment, your PoS just got itself a cool new look, but besides that, now create products without leaving your PoS interface, create free orders in the PoS at your restaurant, create PoS events, and display product variants just like on an e-commerce site.
3. E-commerce Module
Now, access a new location selector widget (as shown in the screenshot below), a sign-in button in the checkout form, and a one-page checkout. Users can also hide the shop pages for unknown users, generate a mega menu based on e-commerce categories, allow multiple warehouses on a website, and display stock quantity on the product page.
Users also get an improved click-and-collect flow, the option to confirm the order before payments, and experience several SEO improvements.
4. Inventory and Purchase Module
The inventory and purchase module offers an improved delivery dispatching highly customizable screen, an option to combine waves and batches and improve putaways. Check out the revamped barcode app in the screenshot below.
There are several feature improvements under the barcode, namely the option to hide reserved lots/serials, hide theoretical quantity in inventory adjustments, forbid users to add products not in the picking, and aggregate lines of same products in batches. The barcode app can be installed as a PWA on mobile devices, accept the signature of the recipient on deliveries, and more.
Under inventory, users can engage in valuation by lots, create inter-company lots/SN, create new push rules and flexible routes, MTO that can pick a part in the stock and procure the remaining, generate a package content report containing a QR code with all serials inside and scan QR code containing mass data.
Users can also make down payments under the purchase module, create purchase templates, access structured data (UBL) stored in the pdf RfQ/PO for easy import in sales, merge RfQs manually, and access improved reports.
5. MRP Module
The UI of the MRP module has been revamped to look sleek. New features include the automatic and flexible route, Gant view improvements which allow users to scroll horizontally, zoom in and out, and view one task per line, on-demand quality check, request a repair for rental returns, MRP documents refactor, product catalog for BOM, MO, and repair. Shop for improvements allows users to add notes, fold and unfold instructions, and click on an option called ‘Next operations’ (screenshot below)
Several new features have been added to the services modules, including the products under warranty.
The three field service features added are planning by location, integration with
Maintenance, and cost of products in analytic accounting.
7. Accounting Module
Accounting is a key module in Odoo and V18 has a new invoicing feature in the enterprise version. The updates allow users to add product descriptions in a single column, preview the layout configuration, and select a tax guide. They can also lock dates in the sales and vendor journal.
The invoicing module allows for duplicate detection and invoice document preview “Pop-out”.
The banking module has an improved UX for Bank synchronization, more providers, credit card management, improved batch payment matching, and payment initiation.
In reports, annotations have been revamped, journal reports have been updated, and date selection has been improved.
8. HR and Payroll
The new features in attendance allow for the creation of reports on overtime and the management of fingerprints. The recruitment module lets users have a job menu on the website, parse incoming mails to the job board, post directly on job boards, add conditional questions on the website for each job position, and populate job positions from applicants based on skills.
The time off sub-modules allows users to display pending allocation requests, display the working hours in the calendar, approve directly from the overview screen, the option to include or exclude public holidays, and the option to hide or show time off types from the dashboard.
Updates have also been made to features such as appraisals, referrals, approvals, fleet, employee management, and payroll management
9. CRM and Marketing
Odoo has launched a brand new app called Social Share, and Whatsapp has been added to several workflows in Inventory, Marketing, and Automation. Users can set appointments, define the visibility of their events, view clicks on mailers, access an improved email composer, and easier mail server configuration.
10. Spreadsheets and Dashboards
Comments on cells let users discuss in the spreadsheet, edit dynamic pivots, use data tables to quickly sort, style, filter, add new records, enhance chats, and experience several other features.
