Our client was a steel and metal solutions provider in Canada. Their services included saw and laser cutting, metal fabrication, welding, shearing and breaking, boring machining holes, bending sheet metal, and supplying steel to manufacturing, construction, and fabrication businesses.
The client approached Navabrind IT Solutions to address several technology gaps in their business, such as disjointed systems, manual data entries, lack of real-time visibility into processes and data, and inefficient inventory and field data management.
Challenges
Lack of coordination – Business units were physically dispersed and this resulted in poor planning and updates. This resulted in vagueness and work delays.
Field data management – Measurements of various products and field data were collected in hard copy. This made field data management cumbersome.
Quotation management – Quotations were handled manually and managing and tracking quotations proved to be a bottleneck.
New quotations handling – Since quotations were created manually, the sales team found it difficult to create and reference quotations.
Warranty management – The warranty of products could not be analyzed automatically. Due to the manual process, reviewing documents became time-consuming.
Legacy systems – Several legacy systems needed to transition to the Odoo ERP.
Data security – The client also wanted to enhance the security of their systems.
Solution
The process-driven team at Navabrind IT Solutions spent a significant time understanding the client’s requirements and suggesting the best way Odoo ERP could help automate processes and reduce manual data entry.
Here’s how Odoo ERP helped.
Automated operations – Odoo automated several workflows such as casting, chipping, welding, and others. Processes related to staff management, work centers, and price control were also automated.
Quotation process – From assessing the stock at the warehouse to managing real-time quotes for raw materials and semi-finished goods, Navabrind IT Solutions deployed automation so that our client was able to send quotations with ease.
Sub-contracting – Purchasing from sub-contractors was automated. The management of purchase orders, distribution of sub-assemblies, and quotations was made efficient.
Inventory management – The inventory module analyzed goods stored in the warehouse. With accurate updates on the quantity available, our client could understand the demand for different products, avoid overstocking, and maintain the right stock. The inventory module integrated with the work center and PoS.
The inventory module traced batch numbers, enabled PLM-based product movement, and managed BoM components.
Quality checks and alerts – The quality management teams required alerts to learn about process flaws. Besides the alerts, quality checks were triggered to ensure the quality team was always updated.
Planning module – Project management was integrated with the planning module to monitor metal fabrication projects. Our client was able to send accurate timelines for project tasks and deliveries to customers.
Field service management – The on-field service system allowed field employees to feed data into the Odoo ERP. Crucial details were accessed by other teams. This ensured transparency in field data.
Several processes were also automated such as scrap management, shipment, logistics, traceability, product categorization, master data, engineering change order, research, and development.
