Odoo ERP’s version 20 was launched in late September, 2026 at its largest annual public event in Brussels, and Accounting is one of the large modules of the ERP besides Manufacturing, E-commerce, and Inventory.
Accounting is particularly important since many small and medium-sized businesses begin their journey with Odoo by selecting this module.
In this blog post we are going to look at the different new features that have been added to the Accounting Module in Odoo 20. Apart from the AI capabilities, users will find that the module can be configured more flexibly to meet their country specific needs, and the new enhancements have been introduced to enable users to get information faster and with greater accuracy.
AI Capabilities
First of all, the main dashboard in the Odoo Accounting module has been given a new appearance, with each KPI now having its own card and users being able to hide or unhide the cards according to their requirements. The module also includes an AI agent, so users do not need to consult a number of different reports anymore; instead, they can get the information they need by using the agent, for example by asking what the outstanding receivables are today, what my gross profits are, what my current cash flow status is, or what my unpaid invoices are? The AI agent then provides the exact figures. In the case where users suspect there is a mistake in the bank reconciliation, all they have to do is ask the AI agent to check this information and it will carry out a full audit, examining the records cycle by cycle and then producing a clear summary together with clear recommendations.
Should users wish to use an external AI tool, they only need to connect their database to it once, after which the tool will be able to securely read and write their Odoo data without in any way altering their existing access rights. Now, with the new AI features, rather than exporting their payment files and uploading them to their bank’s website, users can pay their invoices directly from Odoo.

Analytic Distribution for Write-Offs
When companies carry out bank reconciliations, they are now able to assign analytic distributions when making write-offs. This enables the amounts of write-offs to be distributed among departments, projects, or cost centres, thus improving the accuracy of financial reporting.
Annual Report Layout
In Odoo 20 annual reports now automatically adhere to the document layout which has been set up for the company. This ensures that the branding and formatting remain consistent throughout the financial reports.
Asset Depreciation
Odoo 20 provides greater flexibility when calculating the depreciation of assets by enabling users to set depreciation rates and use floating-point values. This facilitates more accurate depreciation calculations and helps businesses to manage their fixed assets in line with their accounting requirements.
Improved Bank Consistency
Odoo 20 improves bank accounting controls by making it so that journal entries which affect bank accounts must be based on bank transactions. This in turn reduces the risk of inconsistencies resulting from manual journal entries.
The improved feedback on statement validation makes it easier for accounting teams to spot and rectify discrepancies in balances, thus helping to ensure accurate bank reconciliations.
Bank Reconciliation Summary Report
The improved bank reconciliation summary report gives a detailed account of transactions that have been reconciled and those that have not as of the end date of the selected period. This allows finance teams to spot outstanding transactions, look into any discrepancies, and make sure that the bank balances are properly shown in their accounting records.
Bank Synchronization with Syncfy
Odoo 20 enhances its ability to synchronise with banks by now offering Syncfy as a third-party provider in Latin America. The integration enables companies to link their supported bank accounts with Odoo, thereby reducing the need for manual data entry.
Intelligent Bill Line Prediction
Odoo 20 makes it easier to process vendor bills by automatically suggesting details for each line of the bill on the basis of previous bills and the descriptions. When users are creating or importing bills, the system is able to predict the products, accounts, taxes, analytic distributions, and vehicle information.
In the past, the manual values entered have been retained, which cuts down on the need for repeated data entry and helps accounting teams to process the bills more quickly.
Improved Bill Options Display
The interface for viewing vendor bills has been improved in order to enhance readability. Instead of appearing horizontally, further information such as depreciation models, vehicles, and deferred payment options is now shown vertically below the account. This means that the details of the bill are easier to look at and navigate, especially when dealing with complicated transactions.
Configurable Bill and Invoice Matching Rules
Odoo 20 includes configurable matching rules which enable companies to set payment tolerances and establish matching priorities for the automatic reconciliation of bills and invoices. As a result, finance teams are given better control over the way in which payments are matched to outstanding transactions.
Cash Journal Entry Hashing
Odoo 20 improves the integrity of accounting data by allowing hashing of entries in cash journals when reconciliation is performed. This serves as a safeguard against undetected modifications to reconciled accounting entries.
Clearer Foreign Currency Conversion Rates
When registering payments in foreign currencies Odoo 20 shows the currency conversion rates. This feature enables accounting teams to have a better view of the exchange rates used in international transactions.
Cumulative Translation Adjustment (CTA)
For businesses which operate in more than one currency, fluctuations in exchange rates can lead to inconsistencies in their financial statements. Odoo 20’s Accounting Module includes an auditable Cumulative Translation Adjustment (CTA) item in the balance sheet, the trial balance and the general ledger. This function automatically records the differences that result from the use of historical and closing exchange rates for various account categories.
Expanded Currency Exchange Rate Providers
Odoo 20 broadens the range of regional currency exchange rate providers it supports, which makes it easier for businesses that operate internationally to obtain exchange rate information from the relevant central banks.
It allows companies to handle their foreign exchange transactions by using exchange rates provided by well-recognized regional financial institutions.
It is now easier to follow up on invoices that are overdue in Odoo 20. Members of the accounting team can send payment reminders manually either from the invoice list or by using the Send button on each individual invoice. Businesses are also able to set up automatic reminders in the Accounting settings, which helps to improve the collection of payments and reduces the amount of administrative work.
Bulk Download of Invoice Attachments
Odoo 20 simplifies invoice document management by enabling users to download the attachments for several invoices at the same time in the form of a single ZIP file. Whilst viewing the list of invoices, accountants are able to select the invoices and download the documents that have been generated, such as PDFs and XML files. This feature helps to save time when preparing documents for audits, compliance reporting, or when sharing records with external accountants.
Streamlined Employee Expense Accounting
By integrating approved expenses into the standard vendor bill process, Odoo 20 makes it easier to handle employee expenses. Rather than having a separate Employee Expenses menu, approved expenses now produce draft bills in the standard expense journal.
Accountants have the possibility of reviewing, filtering, and then posting these expenses together with ordinary vendor bills.
Simplified Exchange Gain and Loss Entries
In Odoo 20 the presentation of foreign exchange gains and losses is improved by combining them into one line for each invoice. When necessary, accountants can expand that line to examine the original calculations. This means that the financial entries become easier to understand without at the same time losing the details needed for verification and auditing.
Improved Duplicate Invoice Detection
Odoo has introduced a more clear and colour-coded warning system for detecting duplicate invoices and bills. Transactions which are very likely to need correction are shown with red warnings, while potential duplicates are indicated by yellow warnings. Once the transactions have been posted, only the red warnings are visible.
Automatic Intercompany Purchase Order Matching
Reconciling intercompany transactions has now become simpler for businesses that manage several companies within Odoo. When sales orders, purchase orders and invoices are synchronized between companies, Odoo 20 matches the synchronized vendor bills with the purchase orders that correspond to them.
Intuitive Payment Statuses
Odoo 20 includes more clear terminology for payment status in order to help users understand the position of their transactions within the payment and reconciliation process.
The old “In Process” status has now been renamed “Paid”, and “Paid” itself has been recalled “Reconciled”. The manual “Mark as Reconciled” option has also been transferred to the action menu.
Improved Inventory Valuation Accounting
Odoo 20 includes enhancements to inventory valuation when using perpetual accounting, and accountants are now able to create accrual entries directly from the inventory valuation closing report in the case of transactions like Bills to Receive, Billed Not Received, Invoices to Be Issued, and Invoiced Not Delivered.
The inventory valuation account is directly affected rather than going through the stock variation account.
Automatic Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Adjustments
Odoo 20 enhances inventory costing by automatically adjusting the value of products that have already been delivered or used when their costs change.
For instance, if the amount shown on a supplier’s final invoice differs from the original purchase price or if extra landed costs are recorded after delivery, Odoo can make a retroactive adjustment to the delivery valuation and, in the case of perpetual accounting, also update the related invoice cost.
Easier Invoice Email Attachments
With Odoo 20 it has become easier to include supporting documents when sending invoices to customers. Users can attach files from the Documents app or choose documents that have already been shared in the invoice’s chatter. This makes it simpler to send invoices together with purchase orders, contracts, delivery confirmations, or other supporting documentation.
More Flexible Manual Reconciliation
With Odoo 20 it is possible to manually reconcile any accounting account, which gives finance teams more flexibility when matching and clearing transactions.
The checkbox previously known as “Allow Reconciliation” has now been changed to “Payment Reconciliation”, and this option decides if open items from an account are suggested when performing a bank reconciliation and also if exchange rate difference entries are expected during the reconciliation process.
Improved Multi-Ledger Consolidation
Odoo 20 has changed the way journals are treated when carrying out multi-ledger consolidation by now including them in the consolidation process rather than excluding them. This feature offers an inclusive method of consolidating financial information across various ledgers and assists accounting teams in keeping consistency in their consolidated financial reports.
Clearer Communication When Sending Multiple Invoices
Now that Odoo 20 is capable of sending several invoices at the same time, the confirmation screen shows how each invoice will be delivered. This allows accounting teams to have a clearer view of the delivery methods they have selected before the invoices are sent, so that they can check the way in which the invoices will be communicated.
Simplified Accounting Onboarding
Odoo 20 makes it easier to set up accounting at the beginning, especially in the area of electronic invoicing and when configuring taxes. The improved onboarding process assists companies in setting up key accounting requirements and reduces the complexity of the setup.
Faster Accounting Data Entry
Odoo 20 includes improvements designed to speed up ordinary accounting tasks, with quick shortcuts available for reconciliation models and the capability to batch statement transactions, thus reducing the number of repetitive actions carried out during transaction processing.
These improvements enable accounting teams to deal with large volumes of transactions and to carry out routine tasks efficiently..
Flexible PAIN Version Configuration
The setting for outgoing payments in the PAIN version has been transferred from the journal level to the payment method level. Formats known as PAIN (Payment Initiation) are used for exchanging payment instructions with banks.
This alteration provides businesses with the flexibility needed when setting up payment files for different banks or different payment methods which require different PAIN versions.
Simplified Chart of Accounts with Parent Accounts
In Odoo 20, account groups have been replaced by parent accounts as a way of organizing the chart of accounts and account codes are now optional, which gives businesses more flexibility when structuring their financial accounts.
It thus becomes simpler to set up logical account hierarchies and to arrange the financial information in accordance with the company’s reporting requirements.
Pay Vendor Bills Directly from Odoo
Odoo 20 includes the possibility of making vendor bill payments directly from the platform via a new interface with a Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP).
With a single signature, companies can pay out individual bills or a number of bills in batches, provided that the banking connections are supported and the necessary authorizations have been obtained. The presence of this feature in the accounting module means that it is less necessary to switch between Odoo and the external banking platforms.
Global Location Identifiers for Peppol
Odoo allows Global Location Identifiers (GLNs) to be used for the delivery contacts of partners, which enables business locations to be identified accurately when exchanging electronic documents via Peppol.
This is suitable for companies that have several branches, warehouses, or delivery points since it makes sure that electronic invoices and the related documents contain the correct location information.
Improved Protection Against Duplicate Payments
When users access the payment wizard in Odoo 20, the system identifies any pending payments and automatically subtracts from the outstanding amount those payments which have a “Paid” status and have not yet been reconciled, thus helping to avoid accidental duplicate payments.
The outstanding payments are also arranged in chronological order, which gives accounting teams a clearer insight into payment activity.
Professional Percentage for Purchase Receipts
The “Professional” percentage field which was already available on vendor bills is now being extended to purchase receipts. This enables businesses to record the appropriate professional-use percentage at an earlier stage of the purchasing process and thus supports more consistent allocation of expenses and accounting treatment.
Improved Purchase Order and Vendor Bill Matching
Odoo 20 makes it simpler to match vendor bills with purchase orders since its improved Auto-Complete feature checks for existing matching bill lines before generating new ones, thus reducing the number of duplicate entries.
Accountants are also given a clear summary of the items that have been matched, and they receive warnings where the billed prices or quantities do not match those in the purchase order. Vendor bills can be left unmatched to the purchase orders when it is necessary to make corrections. These enhancements to the Accounting process enable businesses to detect billing discrepancies.
Simplified Payment Reminder Workflow
Odoo 20 makes it easier to handle both automatic and manual payment reminders. By doing so, it allows finance teams to carry out customer follow-ups more easily and thus decreases the amount of administrative work required to keep track of invoices that are still overdue.
Bulk Reset to Draft
In Odoo 20 there is a ‘Reset to Draft’ action available in list views which enables users to set multiple eligible accounting entries to draft at the same time.
Rather than opening and making individual changes to each record, accountants can select the entries in question and carry out the action in one step.
Run Auto Reconciliation on Demand
Odoo 20 provides accountants with more control when it comes to bank reconciliation through the introduction of the “Run Auto Reconciliation” feature. If required, users can manually restart the automatic reconciliation process, for example after modifying the matching rules or having looked at transactions that had not been matched.
Simplified Fixed Asset Depreciation Models
Odoo 20 makes it easier to manage fixed assets by substituting asset models with depreciation models which are concerned specifically with the way depreciation is calculated.
Now, asset-related settings and automated functions can be managed directly via asset accounts, with important configurations all being located in one place. This feature makes it easier for accounting teams to set up depreciation rules, manage fixed assets, and keep accounting practices consistent.
Split Invoice Journal Items
In Odoo 20 accountants have the facility of splitting journal items directly from an invoice. To do this, users can open the journal items using the smart button on the invoice and then select one or more lines before dividing them.
It is especially useful in cases where an invoice contains several quantities of an asset or when an individual expense has to be distributed among different accounts. Thus, it offers more flexibility in recording transactions without the need to recreate the original invoice.
Improved Tax Control Through Fiscal Positions
Odoo 20 improves tax consistency by making sure that only the taxes authorised by the invoice’s fiscal position are applied. This action helps to avoid the application of incompatible taxes.
If the default tax assigned to a product or account is not part of the selected fiscal position, Odoo will automatically eliminate it, even if no replacement tax has been set up.
Stock Valuation Without the Inventory App
With Odoo 20 businesses are able to keep track of the quantity of products they have on hand and manage their accounting valuation without having to install the Inventory app.
It is suitable for companies which have fairly simple needs when it comes to stock management and who need financial insight into the quantities and values of their products but do not need sophisticated warehouse management features.
Improved Withholding Tax Payment Management
Odoo 20 makes it easier to understand and manage payments of withholding tax. When invoices from vendors involve withholding tax, they now show a clear break down of the Amount Due, the Withhold Due, and the Net Due. This provides accounting teams with more flexibility when handling transactions which are subject to withholding tax.
The payment wizard also gives users the option of paying just the amount of tax withheld, the payment amount, or the full amount.
